There are two different types of IP address: public (external) and local (internal). Your public IP is how the internet recognizes your network via your internet provider. Your local IP is assigned by the router on your internal network. The public IP address is helpful if you need to allow someone remote access to your network or if you lose internet connection. The local IP address is helpful for internal network technical problems, setting up printers, and other 


How to Find Your Public IP Address:


Open your browser of choice, then go to Google to search. Type "my ip" into the search bar and search. You'll see your public IP displayed at the top of the search results.


How to Find Your Private IP Address:


Windows:


Click the “Start” button, then type in CMD to your search bar. This will launch the Command Prompt. From here, type “ipconfig” and press enter. This will display your networking information. Find the Wifi router you are using, and then look for the IPv4 address below. This is your private IP address.

Mac:


Click the top Apple Menu, then “System Preferences.” Find the “Network” option and click it to open a new window. Select the Wifi router you are using, then toggle to the TCP/IP tab. Your IPv4 address will show, which is your private IP address.
